Space Dandy Episode 1 Impressions

This may be late but at least its before the next episode tonight!

Toonami has a new show, hurray! Not just any new show but a simultaneously broadcasted show. Meaning that it will air the same day in both Japan and America! This isn't anything new there have been other anime series that have done it this way. The fact that Toonami was able to land this show is incredible! After being on the chopping block since its return Toonami has seemed to have a revival. What better way to show a revival than having the block come on 30 minutes earlier and a simulcasted show on top of that.

I have no idea what the overall plot of the show is but the first episode follows a man named Dandy, a talking space cat named Meow, and a robot named QT and their adventure to find the "phantom ramen." While in pursuit of this "phantom ramen" they are being pursued by this alien army. After running from this army and looking for this ramen they stumble on what could be the "phantom ramen." Little did they know the ramen comes for another dimension where they meet an alien who tells his story of how he started making ramen and what lead him to this dimension. Unfourantely this visit to the other dimension is short lived because if they don't leave soon they could be stuck there forever. They get out but Meow is upset because he didn't even get to taste the "phantom ramen."

The animation is amazing. I should expect nothing less from the studio that did Samurai Champloo but this is some really good. The movement on the characters shows the attention to every single frame. The art style seems to bode well with the theme of the show. Dandy might not be the most handsome anime character to look at but at least he is distinct. I love Ian Sinclair as Dandy he seems to be a natural fit. It's the hair, its got to be the hair!

Color me impressed. This show shattered my expectations. I had very low expectations. When I saw one of the promo's I thought this was going to be some shallow excuse for fan-service and plain weirdness for the sake of shock. It still might turn out to be that way but this first episode shows otherwise. The show comes on Toonami at the new start time 11:30pm eastern on Adult Swim.

Live Action Black Butler Character Videos

Warner Bros. Japan put up 4 character promo videos for their live action adaptation of Yana Tosobo Black Butler manga earlier this week. The videos highlight Sebastian, Lin, Shiori, and Hanae. This adaptation takes place in the year 2020 in a Asian city where Western and Asian cultures intermingle frequently. Shiori is a intelligence operative for the Queen of the Western nations. The Queen orders Shiori to find out about the "serial mummified murder case." This case leads to Shiori becoming part of something she wish she wasn't.

Shoiri

Sebastian

I don't much about Black Butler but I do know that Shoiri is not the main character of the original. I also know that this is set 130 years later than the original. This adaptation seems to loosely follow the premise of the original. Sebastian is still here, of course and does the same thing he did in the original. Sebastian being a demon explains why he lived for an extra 130 years. Shoiri seems to be a "Ciel" clone, she dresses like him in some scenes and has the eye patch too!

As stated before I don't know much about Black Butler, and its probably good that I don't because I can actually see this movie with non-bias eyes. The film is out now in Japan. I won't post all the videos here. If want to see them all go here.

Lets Watch Some Anime! December: Full Metal & G-Wing

The season of winter. The perfect to snuggle up inside with that special someone and watch some good movies, or TV shows. I seemed to have made a tradition during the winter or at least during December doing just that. I usually choose two animated TV series with at least 30 plus episodes to watch. Last year I re-watched Avatar the Last Airbender and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. This year I plan to re-watch

Full Metal Alchemist the original series                        &                          Mobile Suit Gundam Wing

Both series have about 50 plus episodes so its going to be a long watch but I do believe I can get through them both. In addition to watching both of these series I'm also going to post mini reviews. I would like for you the faithful readers, to watch these series with me. I'll open the comment section when I post the reviews and I'll be posting on twitter, my personal twitter and our facebook to keep you all updated on my progress. You can watch Full Metal Alchemist on Netflix, and Hulu. Gundam Wing you can watch...............You might not be able to find it and I'm telling you to steal but, yeah.

Hope all of you have a safe and wonderful holiday.

Cheers,
Dorian

P.S. So it took so long for me to post again but I've been busy and lets just say this happened.

Wind, Madoka,& Momo submitted for Oscars

Wind Rises, Madoka Magica, Momo Submitted for Oscar Nominations

Its getting close now. No more super-hyped blockbusters just serious quiet dramas.

"What?" "Thor 2 and the Hunger Games 2 are coming out in November." "Well, so much for quiet dramas."

We getting close to Oscar season, or there preferred name as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In fact last Tuesday the Academy announced that it had 19 films submitted for review. That list includes:

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2

Free Birds

Planes

Epic

The Smurfs 2

There's more, if you want the full list hit the link above. I just wanted to point out some of the ones submitted. (Going off on a tangent) Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 is nothing special but I can dig it. Free Birds, Planes, Epic, The Smurfs 2! If they get nominated then dear mama I'm not trusting the Oscars again, ever!

Anyways, I can see the Wind Rises getting an Oscar nod and maybe A letter to Momo too. I don't think Madoka Magica will get a nod but if does

Dragon Ball Z:Battle of Z's New English Trailer Features Flow's Cover Song - Well..... Its there. I like that you can get the Ninja suit for Goku. I haven't played any of the new Dragon Ball Z games since Budakai Tenkachi 3 on Wii. The cover isn't bad I..... just have affection for the old one.

GTO Early Years get sequel. - This will not die. It will not go away. Ever! It is true, there will be a sequel. It will still follow, Oni-Baku the duo of Eikichi and Ryuji. Seriously though why won't you die. I like you but die.

One Piece Celebrates 300 Million Copies with Special Prefecture Posters - 300 Million copies! How many milestones are you going to set Japan! First it was Twitter than Television and now manga! Well....... not exactly manga since the record wasn't set or shown to be broken but its still a feat nonetheless.

"Yea! We broke a record!" That's what Luffy would say.

Weekly Ramen Bites Oct. 27- Nov. 2

Here's where I gather all the stories that weren't worthy of their own post but deserve recognition are put here.

Sorry about last week I had work and couldn't finish wrapping up the stories from last week. So I'll give you Sunday as a bonus.

Pokemon Juice with Vitamin C! - The Japanese beverage company DyDo Drinco has put out Pokemon themed juice cans. There are only two flavors, apple and orange, and contain a considerable amount of Vitamin C. IN celebration of Pokemon XY and to sell more juice. I want this..... well the cans anyway.

Pop stars make sushi! - "Whaaaaaaaaaaaat!" Yes this real and yes it is happening. Probably wouldn't eat there though. I would get annoyed with all the singing, even if they are cute.

7-Eleven offers One Piece Gum Gum Fruit Buns - In Japan, of course. Its a sweet bun that looks like the gum-gum aka the devil fruit. You won't get any powers but you will get a tasty  treat.Or maybe you will get strange powers..... no you won't.

Speaking of something thats not food....

Hatsune Miku's Father gets a Medal - "She has a 'faja'? Yes she has a father, in technical terms. Anyways, Hiroyuki Ito will be receiving a blue ribbon medal on November 13. Why? He has made "prosperous efforts in the areas of education and public welfare". How? Besides Hatsune Miku being one of the popular "pop stars" to come out of Japan (seriously people who don't watch anime knew who 'she' was), and making a software program that allows anyone to make a song with Miku's voice.
